As you know, one of my 30 for 2012 goals is to save more and spend less. I am not sure I will hit the million dollar mark any time soon, but I am working on ways to save as much as possible and reduce my more frivolous expenditures.

I started with my Winter 30 for 30. I didn't do the math, but I probably saved a few hundred dollars with my Winter 30 for 30. As long as I don't go out shopping for a whole new wardrobe, this amount, along with future 30 for 30s and other saving strategies will hopefully begin adding up.

My next saving strategy - the "No Spend Day" challenge. I got the idea for this challenge from Jason over at Frugal Dad. Basically, the challenge is to not spend any money, even $1.00, one day a week, to ultimately be more conscious about what money is being spent on, and reduce monthly expenses - especially when pulling out a credit or debit card, even for the smallest purchases makes it so easy to spend money that can add up over time.

I am beginning the "No Spend Day" challenge this month (I actually started this week on leap day), but plan on, barring any unforeseen circumstances, continuing this challenge at least through the end of the year. I will provide updates throughout the year on how the challenge is going and what I avoided buying, or couldn't avoid buying. What can I say, you guys have a way of keeping me honest so I am hoping this will be a successful challenge.

What are your tips for saving money?

  1. Yay for a new outfit! The No Spend Day sounds like a really good idea. My spending downfall is the weekend, when I seem to spend tons of money. The hubby and I have tried to cut down on our eating out on the weekends to save money. Instead of going out to dinner 2 nights a week, we're only going out 1 night.
